Christine's Gastric Pacemaker Fund
Donation protected
My sister, Christine Seely, has had her life, independence, career, and will to live slowly stripped away over the course of the last year. She has lost her job and career path, was forced to move home with my mother due to financial constraints, and has lost the ability to care not only for herself but for her beautiful son Bradley.
Her decline began immediately following the birth of Bradley in December of 2010. She developed gestational diabetes during her pregnancy. Over the course of the next three years, she developed type 2 diabetes mellitus (the one where you don't require insulin injections to survive). Unfortunately, type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) rapidly progressed into type 1 DM. In type 1 DM, your body cannot produce any insulin which requires you to do multiple finger pricks and injections daily. To make matters worse, she was dropped from her insurance coverage and was unable to receive medical treatment for her diabetes.
As a result of the sad series of events, my sister Christine has developed severe gastroparesis. Due to extensive nerve damage related to long-term elevated blood sugar levels, her stomach and colon do not function. She has lost over 80 pounds since August 2013. She no longer has the energy to get out of bed some days, let alone care for Bradley. She suffers from severe debilitating chronic nerve pain, cannot eat or drink without extreme discomfort, and hangs on a cliff each an everyday to survive her circumstances. She has been to the various ERs in the area close to 10 times since August 2014, and has seen three gastric specialists. She has had every test imaginable to determine the cause of her decline. She has lost her job, can't afford to live alone, and is facing imminent medical bankruptcy.
The best plan of action devised by multiple physicians is for Christine to receive a gastric pacemaker. This device would allow her to digest food, gain weight, and get relief from constant vomiting. The purpose of this fund is to cover the cost of the pacemaker surgery, and attempt to offset some of the enormous financial strain my family is facing to survive. The cost ranges from 25 to 50k for the surgery.
Every single penny makes a difference in the lives of my sister and her son. Every cent means I'm closer to getting my sister back. Every single donation means my family is one step closer to ending the grief process of losing Christine as a person and human being.
Thank you in advance for your kind generosity.
