As you may know, our beloved friend David was brutally attacked on his way home from work on May 29th.

He has extensive injuries to his head and face, which will need surgery and follow up treatment. Despite the trauma of the incident, he remains in good spirits and has been patient with his caregivers in the hospital and at home in Chicago.

UPDATE:
After meeting with surgeons on 6/2, David has been scheduled for surgery on 6/6 to repair the most obvious fractures and further explore some areas that may require additional treatment. Due to this exploration, and the unknown requirements of healing, I am altering the goal of the fundraiser to reflect the possibility of further recovery needs and potentially fees related to legal counseling. We remain in contact with detectives and social workers to pursue justice and financial and emotional support.
END

Thank you all again for your support, contributions, and well wishes. We are blown away by the incredible support and love coming from all of our networks, friends and neighbors.

For now, he is home, stable and scheduled for outpatient surgeries on June 2nd. The current estimated healing and follow up are expected to last 4-6 weeks. During this time David will be out of work and resting. Your contributions will go towards medication, and cost of living during recovery. Additionally David’s mother, Maria, is visiting from Houston and staying with us for the time being- offering support and care to her eldest child. Funding will also support her transportation to and from the hospital, and cost of living during her stay.
We may seek additional support pending medical bills, but currently we are counting on support from the Illinois Victims of Violent Crimes funding to cover substantial medical expenses.

If you are able to contribute to the fund, we thank you deeply and profoundly during this difficult time. If you are able to share this information we appreciate all the support and well wishes.

If you have questions, or would like to contribute in other ways please contact Rose, David’s longtime roommate.
