Rose Wallace Memorial Scholarship
Donation protected
Our beloved sister, friend and coach, Rosanne (Rose) Wallace, passed away suddenly on March 20, 2025. We are devastated by her passing. Rose was a dedicated volunteer who was always willing to share her knowledge and passion for hockey. She played a significant role in coaching the Wildcats and established “Between the Pipes Goalie Academy” in Trail, BC helping aspiring goalies develop their skills and confidence. As a coach Rose was also an on ice instructor with Bradfords Goalie Academy and an on ice Goalie helper at the Prestigious WickFest tournament, alongside Olympic Gold medalist Shannon Szabados. Rose worked as a Psychiatric Nurse at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital- from as long as we can remember, Rose always wanted to help others; however, from a young age, hockey was Rose’s true passion. As a goalie at heart, Rose’s influence on the kootenay hockey community was profound.
As a player, Rose played for the West Kootenay Wildcats female hockey team from 2004-2009. In 2007, Rose led the Female Midget AAA West Kootenay Wildcats to win the Female Midget Provincial Championship. The Wildcats, with Rose between the pipes, went on to earn bronze in 2008 and silver in 2009 at the Female Midget Provincial Championship. Rose also played in the 2008 BC Winter games, leading Team Kootenay to Bronze. One of Rose’s most significant accomplishments during her hockey career was earning a spot on Team BC. In 2007, Rose participated at the National U18 Female Ice Hockey Championship in Kitchener, ON, winning player of the game in a match against Marie Phillip-Poulin and Team Quebec. Up until her passing, Rose was a dedicated member of the Moguls, a men's recreational hockey team based out of Rossland, BC.
So many friends and family members have expressed a desire to help in some way. It has been heartwarming to see all the kind words, photos and condolence messages that have been posted online. Rose’s mentorship, generosity and dedication to hockey will never be forgotten.
It brings our family some peace to be able to honor Rose’s hockey legacy through the Rose Wallace memorial scholarship which will be awarded to a local female hockey player, with preference given to goaltenders. It is our hope that this award will be offered annually in perpetuity. GoFundMe is being used to collect donations; however, we intend to establish a formal award fund through the LeRoi Foundation. Please note GoFundMe includes a tip option- If you include a tip, these funds will go directly to GoFundMe not the memorial award.
Donations can also be made at any Kootenay Savings Credit Union office. Donations at the credit union should be made into the following account:
