Our friend and neighbor, Leanora Smith was all set to re-open her salon in Santa Monica, on June 2, after 3 months of Covid-19 isolation. Gov Newsom just lifted the ban, allowing hair stylists to start back to work the first week of June. Unfortunately, the riots in Santa Monica on May 31 stopped her and her business from doing so.
She watched from the camera in her salon as looting and destruction happened at least 5 different times throughout the day. The cops were called at least 6 times, but they said they could not help her.
security footage
The two days leading up to the riot, Leanora had stocked everything and was ready to get back to work on that Tuesday. All her work supplies, tools, and accessories and products she had for sale are now gone. She needs everything except her chair and shampoo bowls.
She has a damaged shell of a salon now, and needs help getting back on her feet. If any fellow stylists have connections to companies that are helping out with products, and gear please reach out.
Funds will be used to replenish all supplies damaged and stolen. Specifically, the funds will cover the retail inventory of hair color supplies, blow dryers, curling irons, both for sale and for her salon use, all her brushes, COVID-19 supplies like contact-less thermometer, face masks, sanitizing box rubber gloves, and general damage repairs to the salon.
Leanora has been such a passionate creator in the beauty industry for 44 years, and runs her business out of Phenix Salon in Santa Monica the past 8 years. She is an amazing neighbor and friend to us in Playa Del Rey, and we would love to share her story and help her out.
Thank you for contributing!
