At NFDC, we believe that dance should be accessible to all. That is why we are excited to announce that Dance Abilities is now a FREE class for dancers to join.*
WHAT IS IT?
Dance Abilities is an adaptive dance program at Northern Force Dance Company. Our DA mission is to provide an inclusive opportunity for individuals with special needs to participate in the joys of the performing arts through dance education. Designed for students with Down syndrome, Autism and other developmental and physical disabilities, our classes provide a great way for children with special needs to improve motor skills, confidence and socialization.
WHAT DO WE DO?
During these once-a-week classes, students will learn various types of dance in an encouraging environment. We hope that through this program, dancers will gain confidence, improve coordination, movement skills, and social skills. Dancers will explore movement through styles of dance such as ballet and jazz. Dancers will also have the opportunity to be able to participate and perform in our end of year recitals as well as a regional competition event. Each class will be staffed with experienced instructors from the studio, as well as a number of “mentor” dancers from NFDC.
Fridays 6:45-7:30 (ages 6+)
WHAT TO WEAR?
Any clothing that allows for movement. Tennis shoes or jazz shoes are both acceptable to wear in class.
WHAT IS THE COST?
*Classes are now free! The only payment required is a one-time costume fee.
HOW CAN I OR OTHERS CONTRIBUTE?
Your contribution will help ensure that all kids have access to dance through our Dance Abilities program! Although we are able to offer Dance Abilities as a free class, there are still fees that will need to be covered by families. Your contributions will go towards any competition fees, outstanding costume fees, and other expenses that may arise within this program. Any extra donations that are not utilized by the end of each season will be donated to Special Olympics Minnesota.
