Meet Kai. This little warrior spent 8 months in the NICU. His mom, Katherine, never left his side. She lived in the NICU with him for all those months. Kai was finally able to go home with his devoted family for a few months but, because of medical complications, was taken by ambulance to the children’s hospital where he has now been for 6 weeks. Once again, his mom does not leave his side. The medical team is currently making arrangements for Kai to be transferred to a rehabilitation center in Westchester for continued treatment. They are unsure when he will be able to return home with his parents.
I am a NICU nurse and was fortunate enough to care for Kai and his parents during their stay in the NICU. I joined a home care agency so that I could continue to care for Kai and his family at home. Kai’s parents, Katherine and Henry, have devoted all their time to care for this little guy. Henry works long hours to make up for the loss of Katherine’s income and visits with Kai every chance he gets. Kai has special needs and requires around the clock care. Katherine doesn’t leave her baby’s bedside. They are scared, tired, feel helpless, and are exhausted. They don’t ever complain and never ask for anything.
Besides the emotional and physical toll Kai’s hospitalizations and treatments have taken on his parents, there are also the financial burdens they are currently facing in order to continue to care for Kai and remain at their baby’s bedside. I hope you will consider donating to this special family. Every donation, no matter how small, will be helpful. This is a family that asks for nothing, expects nothing and prays everyday in the chapel hoping that their faith will bring Kai home. Please help me do something for them. They deserve it.
