Colin a 33 year old husband, and father had been having tummy and back pain for the past month. He went to the doctor several times and last week on Wednesday May 30 he was told to get x-rays so he drove from his doctor office to Providence hospital in Hood River. While he was there to get xrays he got very disoriented and started speaking in Ukraine. They determined that he had a stroke at the hospital and was lifeflighted to Providence Portland. He was found to have a massive heart infection that was "growing vegetation" and a piece of it broke off and was in his blood stream and the reason for his stroke. On Saturday the plan was that he would be possibly discharged on Wednesday. However, on Sunday Shira (wife) got a call to return to the hospital that there was a major change for the worse and she needed to get back to the hospital. He had a massive seizure and then had more testing done. He has a brain aneurism that they aren't too worried about unless they need to do surgery. They found out three days ago Tuesday that he has heart damage from the infection and would like to do open heart surgery. So on Wednesday they did more tests (angiogram) on the brain to see what brain repair they would need to do to the aneurism to be able to proceed with open heart surgery (the blood thinners would cause an issue for the aneurism). During this test the neurologist stated that there were in fact TWO aneurisms and that they needed to consult with the cardiologist. He was also transferred by ambulance on Monday from Prov Portland to Prov St Vincents for the heart procedure. Yesterday the doctors said that they need more time to plan because with two aneurisms it may be more risky than monitoring the heart. Regardless he will need to be on IV antibiotics for 4-6 weeks. What does Shira and the family need? The children ages 4 and 2 have never been to day care. Mom and dad had arranged work schedules to be around them. Dad does not have a sick benefit from work and has lost his income entirely at this point. Plus all of you know how expensive day care is. The family needs funds to care for the kids while mom is at the hospital taking care of dad and funds for rent as well as covering the cost of life flight and all three hospitals ICU bills. Please consider a small donation to help this very loving caring family out and keep stability for the family at this very trying changing time for them.
