The Leadership and the American Presidency Program is a program sponsored by The Fund for American Studies and the Ronald Reagan Institute that, "... provides the opportunities and resources for students to interact with and learn valuable insight from top names in government, business, and nonprofit organizations."
As an independent student who has sought to encourage and participate in various community based volunteerism, I am humbled to have been accepted into the LTAP program this summer. Attending this program will allow me the opportunity to engage with fellow student leaders from around the country, study coursework at George Mason University, and intern with a designated sector of the government in Washington D.C. Never would I have imagined such an opportunity would arise, and I am grateful to have been selected as a candidate to attend. In addition to being accepted into this program, I have received a gracious scholarship from the foundation that offsets a majority of the cost in the amount of $7495. The cost to attend the program is based on the amount of hours a student takes; 3 hour course program costs $7750 and the 6 hour course cost $8950, and further for more.
So why am I asking for help?
Asking for assistance has never been easy for me do. This program is an extraordinary opportunity, but I am afraid that I will not be unable to afford attending this summer without a little help. I will continue to do all that I can to save the necessary funding for living expenses throughout the period that I will be there. However, the cost of living (food, transportation, bills, etc.) and the deposit ($750) is a hefty amount for me to procure before I leave in June.
The deposit of $750 is due on April 1st (this is coming up very soon.) This will secure my place in the program, which will begin on June 8th and continue to August 9th. The amount I am asking for will cover the cost of the deposit, transportation to and from D.C., transportation in D.C. during the program, and food and relative living costs. I will be working hard during the remainder of my semester to procure as much funding as possible, but it would be challenging to do so on my own.
It is rarely that I would ever extend a call for help, but in this case, I must rely on my friends, family, and community to help me get to DC this summer. Thank you for taking the time read this and for any help that you are willing to offer.
