Do you feel like no one ever taught you about sexual pleasure? Or feel like you never quite learned how to talk about consent? Or think people really need to start talking about the clit, masturbation, vulvar pain, kinks, differently-abled sex, gender fluidity and more? Sexual education in America is continuously falling short -- only 13 states require sex ed to be medically accurate. There are large and growing gaps between what is taught in sex ed and what we actually need to know!
Our podcast, Sex Ed with DB, is our attempt to try and bridge that gap. We need your help to make this happen. We’re raising funds for Season 3 to pay the amazing sound techs, designers, editors, and creators for their time, and to market the podcast to reach more people in need of sex ed! To date, we have garnered over 15,000 downloads and have discussed a myriad of topics such as: consent, gender, abortion, sex workers’ experiences, different kinds of relationships, fertility, body positivity, menstrual equity, and more. Some things you can look forward to hearing about this coming season include sex and mental health, HIV and PrEP, media representations of sex, and what it means to Vote for Sex Ed in 2020.
OUR MISSION: We’re bringing our listeners all the sex ed they never got through unique and intersectional storytelling. We believe that comprehensive, inclusive, sex-positive sex education is incredibly important, and our goal is to share these conversations to the general public by engaging with smart, outspoken, and progressive thinkers on all things sex and sexuality. In all honesty, we’ve recognized that acquiring complete and accurate information is the only way to truly be able to advocate for ourselves and our bodies.
WHO WE ARE: Danielle Bezalel, your host DB, is a Masters of Public Health student at Columbia University. She has gathered together a group of thought leaders who are passionate about safe, consensual sex and positive sexuality. Together we are determined to bring you the best of the best in podcasts and sexual education.
WHAT WE DO: A few examples of our podcast episodes from the last two seasons are “No, It’s MY Pleasure ,” “Poly Means Many; Amor Means Love, ” “Sex Work is not Sex Trafficking ” and “Vagina Lasers .” If you have any suggestions for the upcoming season we would love to hear them. HOW YOU CAN HELP: We need to raise $8000 to cover our production costs. This includes paying sound techs, designers, editors, and creators for their time, and to market the podcast to reach more people in need of sex ed!
