Family, Friends, Faith Brothers and Sisters,
Many of you have heard, but some may be finding out for the first time in reading this letter. This past Sunday Evening, August 16th, Justin and Lindsay tucked Maddox (4) and Beckett (2) in like any other night. It was a day in which they were putting some final touches on the nursery as Lindsay is also 8.5 months pregnant. Sometime after midnight things didn’t go so normal. They awoke to that loud beeping noise that you pray you only hear when testing the batteries in the smoke alarm. Rushing out into the living room the flames were consuming the back of the house. The paternal and maternal instincts went into full gear and Maddox and Beckett were quickly brought to a safe distance outside the house while J emptied the fire extinguisher, but unfortunately to no avail as the fire took practically everything.
One can only imagine the flood of thoughts and emotions that goes through Justin’s mind as the leader and support head of his family; of Lindsay whose primary concern is for her 2 little boys and the little boy on the way; and of Maddox and Beckett who are just too young to understand all that is taking place. Leave it to Justin to put it all into perspective just moments after the tragedy, when with joy he counts the blessings and Grace of God through it all! Even before the smoke had settled he is reminding everyone that “it’s all just stuff that can be replaced, and that life and family is what matters”.
This family is more or less starting from scratch. The little things like a coffee cup, socks, pillows and a ninja turtle blanket seem so commonplace to us, but they are all rebuilders for Justin and Lindsay. There have been so many gracious people who keep saying “What can we do”, and it’s difficult to know where to start. That’s why this fundme account was created; to give them the flexibility to piece back some things that they need. Certainly there will come a time sooner rather than later where the donation of boy’s clothes is needed, but over the next month it would be really great just to grant them a love donation/offering. We know without question that the Vicks will be extremely grateful for anything given. We’re putting this together because we know that neither Justin nor Lindsay would. It’s not pride; they just aren’t wired that way. They would much rather give than receive!
Justin is right, “It is just stuff”, but in giving we hope to share with their family that “It is just love” that we extend. And we would be amiss if we didn’t say that what reaches farther than any dime ever could is prayer! This gift far exceeds anything tangible. Thanks in advance for the support!
