Next Steps for Jacen

He loves trains, cars, dinosaurs, blocks, bubbles, animals, and pool time. He loves to tickle people and race people in his wheelchair or stander. He is such a sweet boy with a loving heart. He loves to give hugs and kisses and hates to see people sad. On August 29th, 2016 in Clarksville, TN while Jacen was being pushed in a stroller he was hit by a car. He spent months in the hospital and rehab facility. He was left with an incomplete spinal cord injury (C5-C7) that left him unable to walk or use his legs. He has shown a lot of improvement over the past two years but he has a long way to go. The physical therapy his insurance covered was focused on getting him adjusted to life in a wheelchair and not really making much of an attempt to unlock the potential he has shown us he has. Thanks to the support of some wonderful people Jacen has been attending activity based therapy at CORE (Center of Recovery and Exercise) in Altamonte Springs, FL twice a week. Jacen has improved so much in the past year he has been at CORE. He has a lot more leg movement, better balance and core strength, some patchy feeling on his stomach and back, and he regained the ability to sweat! Sadly Activity Based Therapy is not covered by insurance. Jacen started therapy at CORE over a year ago and we have seen great improvements in him and continue to see progress. Therapy is ongoing and costs roughly $14,000 per year. We are continuing to raise funds so that Jacen can continue his therapy with the trainers at CORE who he loves very much. The money we raise will be used for Physical Therapy and his other medical needs. This GoFundMe is managed by Jake and Alyssa Mancil.
