NeXt Doc 2017

After a successful pilot in 2016, the Carey Institute for Global Good and Youth FX are proud to announce the second session of NeXt Doc. The mission of NeXt Doc is to cultivate the next generation of diverse, non-fictional storytellers. The program brings together a community of emerging young filmmakers from across the country for a unique professional and skills development experience at a critical time in their careers. Participants leave with sharpened skills and passion needed to succeed in the world of documentary film.

NeXt Doc returns to the Carey Institute on Monday, June 5 to Friday, June 9, 2017. The residential program will offer 15 youth filmmakers, ages 18 to 24 years old five full days of intensive master classes, experiential workshops, and screenings with award-winning documentary filmmakers and program educators. Presenting filmmakers include: Sabaah Folayan (Whose Streets?), Sonia Kennebeck (National Bird), and Samuel Pollard (Four Little Girls).

Our goal is to make NeXt Doc accessible to all filmmakers who apply, regardless of their financial status. There are no program fees and participants are granted full room and board for the duration of the program, as well as access to the Carey Institute’s theater and editing suite. This is made possible in part by in-kind donations from Youth FX and the Carey Institute for Global Good. We are in search of companies, organizations, local colleges and individuals that are forward-thinking, and committed to creating positive impact to help us raise a $10,000 match by June 1.

Here are some ways you or your organization can contribute to this exciting program:

*Sponsor a student-$1,500

*Cover expenses of presenting filmmakers-$700

*Pay for a full-time staff person to assist participants during the program-$600

*Support the purchase of professional equipment for hands-on workshops-$500

*Support advertising and promotional material-$100

*Help us spread the word and share this campaign with your network.

Thanks for your support!
