Emerging from the Bay Area experimental new music scene, New Zombies is an 11-piece band playing original pieces influenced by Afrobeat, Afropop, highlife, reggae, and other energetic world music. The band draws its name from Fela Kuti's landmark album Zombie; its musical inspirations include Fela, King Sunny Ade, James Brown, and Sun Ra, creating a new sound that takes international dance music in adventurous directions. Fronted by four saxes and propelled by a dynamic rhythm section, the group features musicians who can be heard regularly performing some of the Bay Area's most creative new music.
After honing a selection of pieces at a number of local performances over the past two years, we are heading into the studio early next month to record them for our debut album. The album will get our music out to a wider audience.
We need your help with this! Your donation will help to pay the costs of making this album, including recording, mixing, mastering, artwork, and making physical copies. We hope to release the album in the first part of 2018.
In addition to our eternal appreciation for any and all donations, we also offer several rewards, which are listed on this page.
