Dear friends,
I’m excited to share with you our upcoming project, “In the Wake of Us”—a GoFundMe campaign launching in Fall 2025. Your support would mean the world as we begin this new creative journey.
My choreographic work is deeply rooted in my personal experience as an immigrant from Brazil. I reflect on my life in South America and draw both parallels and contrasts with my life in Canada. These two cultural landscapes profoundly shape my artistic lens, particularly in how we experience and express movement, emotion, and physical connection.
In Brazilian culture, the boundaries between public and private life are more fluid—physical closeness and expressive communication are essential parts of daily life. In contrast, Canadian culture tends to value personal space and a more restrained emotional expression. This cultural duality offers a rich and compelling space for exploration through dance.
Thank you for being part of this journey. I hope you’ll join us in bringing this project to life.
Warmly,
Newton Moraes
