News Warrior Sal: The Final Story
Donation protected
This fund was created to pay tribute to beloved cameraman Sal Casillas.
How do you summarize the story of a man who has spent much of his life shooting the nation's most talked about stories?

For nearly 3 decades, cameraman Sal was on the frontlines of tv news coverage. He relished being in "the thick of it." He was fearless, passionate, and dedicated to his craft. No story was too threatening or trivial. Sal knew the historical importance of what he was documenting, and took pride in getting it right.
Those of us who worked with Sal would describe him as "kind, a perfectionist -- and somewhat stubborn." When we heard that Sal was in the hospital with COVID-19, we prayed for Sal's tenacity to pull him through. His wife Sylvia was also fighting COVID-19 at the same time.
But after a week of battling COVID-19, Sal passed away on July 6th.
This photo captured a rare moment of Sal in action. He preferred to be behind the camera. He loved the excitement of his job.

Some days were filled with breaking news, others with emotional furry features or celebrities.

Sal's devotion to his family was unmatched. He is survived by Sylvia, his loving wife of 33-years; their daughter, two sons and three grandsons. His face would always light up when he spoke of them.

This fund was created by friends and colleagues to honor cameraman Sal's legacy and to provide financial support for the Casillas family in the wake of his sudden death. Donations will go directly to his wife Sylvia to help with medical bills, funeral costs and future expenses.

Sal's work will live on thanks to the thousands of hours of footage he shot. For all who worked with Sal, we will miss him dearly. May he Rest in Peace.
