Hello! We are Newry Rowing Club!

Newry Rowing Club is a community rowing club based in Newry, Northern Ireland, on the Albert Basin of the Newry Canal. We offer rowing opportunities for people in the local area and beyond, both recreationally and competitively.

Please donate to our fundraiser at Newry Christmas Market on Sunday 14th December.

Our athletes- both young and not so young will be ‘keeping it lit’ on the rowing machines for the whole afternoon to raise much needed funds for our growing club.

We badly need new equipment so that everyone who wishes can have the experience of rowing on our beautiful Newry Canal.

All donations will be gratefully received on the day or online and your support is much appreciated.

What the Club Does

Rowing for All Ages: The club welcomes junior members (from about 13+) and adults, with members currently ranging from teenagers to people in their 60s.

Recreational and Competitive Rowing: Members can row for fun or train to compete in local and regional regattas and events.

Training and Participation: We run training sessions on the water (Newry Canal) and also do land-based training.

Community Involvement: The club is actively growing within the community, running beginner programmes and working to expand equipment so more people can start rowing.

About the Organisation

Founded: Originally established in 1873, making it one of the oldest rowing organisations in the area.

Affiliation: It is a voluntary community sports organisation affiliated with Rowing Ireland, the governing body for rowing on the island of Ireland.

Location: Our base is at the Albert Basin on the Newry Canal, where we launch boats and run activities.

In Competition

Rowers from Newry Rowing Club have taken part in competitions such as indoor rowing events and regional races, indicating active participation in the broader rowing community.
