Newman Masjid Urgent Repairs
Donation protected
Assalamu alaykum everyone, In Shaa Allah this message finds you in the best of health and Iman.
Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem.
We are raising funds to pay for the urgently needed repairs for Newman Masjid. The work that is to be carried out is imperative to the survival of the Masjid. Please, let us come together as a community to help save this iconic landmark. Every dollar counts!
The Prophetﷺ said: “The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity.”
(Al-Tirmidhi).
Renovations have commenced, but unfortunately, we have exhausted our funds and are unable to continue. The power has been permanently disconnected until the electrical faults are repaired. This has seen the Masjid go without power for almost 12 months now. Further issues which require immediate attention were discovered once renovations started.
The proposed work to be undertaken include the following;
- Replacement of doors that have deteriorated over time.
- Repairs to the walls due to termite damage.
- Replacement of carpet.
- Electrical upgrades and repairs due to faulty and unsafe wiring.
- Roof leaks to be repaired as well as the ceiling in some areas.
- Plumbing upgrades and repairs.
- Repainting.
Your donation will contribute to the longevity of the Masjid and will ensure a safe and accessible place of worship for not only the local community, but for all those who attend the Masjid.
Uthmān ibn ‘Affān said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'He who builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him the like of it in Paradise."
(Al-Bukhari and Muslim).
We appreciate that everyone's situation is unique, however, it will only take a moment of your time to pass this message on to others in hopes that it reaches as many people as possible. And most importantly, we ask for your dua's in helping us reach our goal.
Jazak Allah khayran.
As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
On behalf of the Newman Muslim Association (NMA) and the residents of Newman, Western Australia—a town nestled in the heart of the Pilbara region—we wish to express our heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering support we have received from the wider Muslim community. This support has been instrumental in maintaining the masjid that was established in 1983. The masjid has served as a cornerstone for the original 25 families who built it, not only as a place of worship but also as a foundation for community growth and for future generations.
The masjid has also been vital for those who live in or pass through Newman, whether on their way to work in the town or at the surrounding mine sites.
We would like to provide you with an update:
Our previous GoFundMe campaign raised almost $16,000 towards our $60,000 goal. Along with additional donations received outside of GoFundMe, our total funds reached $23,000 by 2023. Currently, we have $14,000 in the Association's account and are hopeful to raise significantly more. The masjid has sustained further damage and wear, necessitating more extensive repairs. The initial expenditure of $9,000 was allocated to upgrading the electrical switchboards and restoring electricity, a project that has now been completed.
We have also successfully completed repairs to the upstairs doors. The work still to be undertaken includes replacing the entire ceiling with a drop ceiling, repairing roof leaks, removing the old carpet, installing vinyl flooring, and addressing the downstairs doors near the community hall. Furthermore, we are planning to enhance the masjid's environment by adding four split systems for better temperature control.
We have engaged contractors to continue with the repairs. However, as of February 2024, a portion of the main prayer hall's ceiling has collapsed. This has rendered the ceiling unstable and unsafe due to water damage.
Our goal is to give the masjid the comprehensive renovation it deserves, ensuring it can continue to serve our community.
We appeal to the community to contribute whatever they can towards the much-needed renewal of the masjid. May your donation serve as a Sadaqa Jariyah, a continuous charity that benefits you in this life and the Hereafter.
To inspire and remind us of the virtues of giving, let us reflect on the words of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): "Charity does not decrease wealth; no one forgives, except Allah increases his honor; and no one humbles himself for the sake of Allah, except Allah raises his status." (Sahih Muslim)
