A New Life for Louie

Abandoned senior chihuahua gets a new lease on life - let's help his new family create the best one possible!

While we were away over the 4th of July weekend, our catsitter Mae, who we hired over Rover (shoutout) texted us that there was a note on our neighbor's door saying that he was gone, and his dog was left behind. After knocking, Mae tried the door of the neighbor's apartment and found it unlocked. Inside, a tiny, senior chihuahua was shaking with fear. He was alone - no food, no water - in an apartment with no air conditioning over a very hot, and very loud weekend.

Mae immediately took him to the vet to be examined, where it was discovered that he is about 10 years old, with a level three heart murmur, and the need for a full set of tooth extractions. Despite this, he was a very sweet little guy, insistent on staying in Mae's lap and quickly warming the hearts of everyone in the room. They decided to call him Louie!

We texted a lot over the next few days as Mae and their partner fell in love with Louie, quickly deciding to adopt him themselves rather than risk him ending up at the shelter, noting that a ten-year-old chi with health problems was at great risk, and with the trauma he had experienced, they just couldn't bear to part with him.

I received photos of him at the park in a little wagon, riding along as they walked their other senior rescue dog, and curled up in his new bed. When we returned from our trip, we all met at Shakespeare in the Park, and I also got to meet Louie, a feisty, bright-eyed little guy with a lot of love for his new family.

Taking on a rescue dog is never easy, and Mae and Leo certainly didn't expect to find themselves in that position when they agreed to care for our cat for the weekend. I hope to raise some funds to help cover the costs of Louie's veterinary and rehoming needs. Mae and Leo are wonderful people who stepped in without a second thought to rescue an animal in need from a horrible fate.

Please consider donating to help them cover the ongoing expenses of an unexpected rescue! Louie will need supplies for his new home, as well as veterinary care for both his teeth and his tiny (but adorable) little heart. I will make sure that all funds go directly to Mae and Leo for his ongoing care.

Anything helps, and thank you!!
