A New Home For Timothy Williams

Donation protected
As of Sunday July 17, 2016  A New Home For Timothy Williams GFM will no longer be accepting donations.

Mr. Williams has decided to apply donations to relocating and settling elsewhere. Fundraising was slow and he lost patience with the larger #ANewHomeForTim project.

All GFM donations went directly to Mr. Williams to do with as he deemed best.

Thank you to all who supported #ANewHomeForTim. Please know your donations and support helped put Mr. Williams back on his feet.

On February 24 an EF-1 tornado cut a 9-mile path through the Town of Waverly. One of its last stops was the trailer home of Waverly native Timothy Williams. Mr. Williams barely escaped with his life but his uninsured home was destroyed, beyond repair.

Mr. Williams is a disabled veteran on a fixed income. Although separated from the mother of his children, he plays an active part in their lives and contributes financial support.

After hearing Mr. Williams' story, Anna Hansen contacted Waverly First, a community-based economic partnership, and asked if it could help. It just so happens W1st is working with Everett Taylor, an independent contractor/developer, who wants to rehab foreclosed properties and return them to market as affordable housing in the Town.  Mr. Taylor agreed that if funds could be raised for acquisition of a suitable property and the necessary labor and materials his next project would be a new home for Mr. Williams.

Mr. Taylor has identified local foreclosed properties in the $20,000 range that can be rehabbed quickly. In addition to the benefit to Mr. Williams, the Town also benefits because Mr. Taylor uses local labor and makes local purchases.

And that is what this is about. W1st is seeking to raise $35,000 to buy and rehab a house and deed it to Mr. Williams, free and clear.

Waverly is a poor little town that can use an infusion of goodwill and good news. Helping Mr. Williams get back on his feet is both. Thank you to all who help make that happen.
