Hi everyone,
I never imagined I’d be in a position like this, but I’m reaching out for help on behalf of my sweet cat, Winston. He recently ingested foxtails—a type of invasive grass that may seem harmless but can cause serious, even life-threatening, complications for animals.
What Are Foxtails and Why Are They Dangerous?
Foxtails are barbed seed heads from certain grasses that can easily burrow into the skin, nose, ears, mouth, or even lungs of animals. When ingested, they don’t break down or pass through the body like typical plant matter. Instead, they can migrate through internal tissues, causing infections, abscesses, and severe complications. For cats, foxtails can lead to extreme discomfort, infection, and sometimes require surgery.
Winston is currently under the care of a specialist, receiving the minimum treatment required to stabilize him. While I’m doing everything I can to cover his medical care, the costs are quickly adding up—especially for diagnostics, monitoring, and additional treatments/procedures that have not yet been covered. So far, I’ve paid $5,000 out of pocket for his initial procedures and stabilization at a specialist clinic. Unfortunately, there’s still an estimated $5,000 in additional care he needs that I haven’t been able to cover
This situation has come on suddenly, and it’s been emotionally and financially overwhelming. I'm humbly asking for any support—whether that’s through a donation, a share, or simply keeping Winston in your thoughts.
Every little bit helps and will go directly toward his medical bills and ongoing care. He’s more than a pet—he’s family, and I want to give him every chance to recover and live a healthy life.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for any help you can offer.
With gratitude,
Alaura
