This is an emergency fundraising campaign for the House of Mercy Mission in Newark, NJ.
For those of you who are familiar with the House of Mercy it needs very little introduction, but I'll do my best to concisely introduce you to them.
Over thirty years ago Pastors Sam and Tilly Giresi responded to the call of God and dedicated their lives to serving the people of Newark, NJ. They converted a building, which was once their furniture business, into a mission that has served thousands of people every year for over three decades. The impact that this little mission has had on the city of Newark, and the people who have volunteered there, is immeasurable.
Recently the House of Mercy has experienced some dire challenges. My hope is that we can help them get back on their feet if we all come together.
PLEASE NOTE: they did not ask us to create this fundraiser. We asked them if we could do it on their behalf.
Here’s where they need help:
The building’s roof completely gave out and water has been pouring through the ceiling. Estimates for replacing the roof are in the $100K range.
Amidst the troubles with the roof, the building’s air conditioning units were stolen. Estimates for replacing the air conditioning units are in the $20K range.
All funds raised will be contributed to House of Mercy to provide: 1) a new roof, 2) new air conditioning units, and 3) clean up and repairs from water damage.
This is an URGENT need:
House of Mercy Mission is in the middle of Tilly's Kids summer program. Without a functioning building the mission is unable to effectively provide for the children of Newark who depend on Tilly's Kids. Tilly’s Kids provides children spiritual nourishment highlighting God’s love; emotional well-being for their souls, and food and clothing for their bodies. Many children growing up in Newark never have the opportunity to know that there is more to life than drugs, alcohol, verbal and physical abuse, gangs and crime. The goal of Tilly's kids is to expose inner city children to a life outside of a poverty stricken atmosphere. Tilly’s Kids is comprised of children who reside in Newark and Irvington, NJ.
Below are some photos where the interior ceiling has been destroyed from the water damage.
Below are the remains of the air conditioning units which were stolen in pieces.
Let’s come together and help House of Mercy Mission recover from these unfortunate events and help them get back to the work they love: serving the people of Newark.
For all who feel compelled to donate, THANK YOU! Your generosity, kindness and support mean so much to the House of Mercy staff and Pastors Sam and Tilly. They cannot do the work they are called to do without your support.
