Hi Friends ☺️
We are going around again!
I'm Katy Copeland, a performing artist living in Brooklyn, NY. I am fundraising to put up the second fully staged production of my first play Meet You Downstairs in the New York Theatre Festival: “Summerfest 2024”.
Meet You Downstairs is guaranteed 3 performance slots at the Hudson Guild Theatre in New York City and will present under an Actors Equity Association Showcase Code.
I will make my directorial debut (slay) and the show will feature an all new cast of actors to share their artistry, perspective and talents. To ensure an effective, enjoyable and safe rehearsal process I wish to compensate each actor and crew member for their time and dedication to the project. Additional expenses will include: rehearsal space, set pieces, props, marketing etc.
I wish to celebrate and highlight the queer community by telling honest stories that will open minds, broaden perspective, ask questions, increase awareness, and connect us more vitally with each other. Please know that your support however big or small means the world to me and the artists you will help foster. I promise to make the best damn show I can.
Meet You Downstairs is a story about coming out and growing up. A coming of age seriocomedy memory play told through the lens of one woman's experience and the vibrant people that help shape her. Trying, failing and flailing through her 20s, join Kit while she navigates 3 different yet crucial relationships. Spanning over 10 years, Meet You Downstairs drives to unpack the integral complexities of love, sex, intimacy, friendship and what it means to be queer in a heteronormative world.
PERFORMANCE DATES:
Thursday, June 27, 2024 @ 6:15pm
Saturday, June 29, 2024 @ 2:15pm
Sunday, June 30, 2024 @ 6:00pm
“We strongly believe that self-producing a play or a musical can offer a very important tool for the growth of every playwright’s work. Once a playwright sees their work onstage, it provides an opportunity for the playwright to improve or modify their story. It’s also a great opportunity to invite people from the industry to see your production. In 11 years and 19 seasons we have successfully hosted 1,400 plays and 300 musicals and rewarded with cash prizes over 300 artists who participated in our Festival.” -NYTF
