- New Chapter in New York: Upholding Wael's Journey
Hello Dear Friends,
My name is Wael, If you are reading this, you probably already know a bit about my journey as a Syrian activist and advocate for refugees. this journey has taken me across different parts of the world. I arrived in New York as an Obama Scholar at Columbia University and have recently graduated, I aspired to return to Greece. I planned to expand the impact of our organization, SGYF, continuing our mission to enhance refugees' participation in their new societies.

Fate, however, had a different plan, After seven years as a refugee in Greece, The unexpected happened: the Greek asylum service unjustly revoked my asylum status. This sudden shift left me no choice but to consider applying for asylum status in the United States, immersing me in an unforeseen legal limbo.
Today, I find myself in New York, awaiting my work authorization. The confines of my current status limit my employment options and carry certain risks. I anticipate the work authorization to come through in the next 4 to 6 months. Until then, I need your help to cover my living expenses and to continue my learning journey.

Living in New York, as many of you might already be aware, comes with considerable expenses. That's why I am initiating this fundraiser, to raise $6900. A total of $4200 of these funds will cover my rent and $2700 my breakfast and dinner for the upcoming three months (June, July, and August). about $400 will go towards taxation fees, The additional $200 is for a two-month training on public narratives coaching. While I've been awarded a scholarship for this program, I still need to cover a small portion of the fees. This training will bolster my skills as a coach on public narrative, strengthening my impact as a refugee advocate.
Your support will extend beyond providing me with stable accommodation and the chance to further my training. It will fortify my ability to continue nurturing refugee leadership and participation. It will sustain a mission born out of personal experience and driven by a shared commitment to human dignity and opportunity.

Together, we can create ripples of change. Thank you for standing with me on this journey.
Warm regards,
Wael
