New York Marathon for Jon

My former AXIS colleague Jon Sherling is battling a rare cancer called Thymic Carcinoma. He discovered very suddenly last Christmas on vacation as he began feeling unwell. After rushing back to New York, he had surgery to remove a metastatic brain tumor. He was subsequently diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer which started in the thymus and had spread to his lungs.

Unfortunately, Jon recently found out the chemotherapy has not been effective. The original tumors are regrowing, and new ones are appearing. He is exploring some radical and experimental treatments and whilst Jon is fortunate enough to receive care at Memorial Sloane Kettering, which offers the best possible expertise for this rare disease, unfortunately, the mechanics of the American system have already and will continue to bring unforeseen, uncovered medical expenses. Such treatments can be well over $150,000 each.

Some of his close friends have engaged in some amazing fundraising efforts. As incredible are their efforts have been, it will still not be enough for the additional medical costs that are accruing.

In an attempt to support Jon, his wife Susie, and their two young boys Ray and Remy I've decided to enter the New York Marathon (my first) this year. The goal is to raise funds and awareness of Jon's situation.
