RELIVING A  NIGHTMARE OF A  FATAL CAR CRASH

Just as our son, Brandon,  was getting back to his normal life of being able to work again, live on his own, and play with his 3-year-old son, tragedy struck. Brandon is quite literally reliving his worst nightmare, once again.  


Past

Just two short years ago, Brandon was a passenger in a fatal car crash where he was pinned under a car for hours, while he watched his friend who was driving die at the scene. Brandon was critically injured but beat the odds. He overcame tremendous obstacles of physical wounds, rehabilitation of being badly burned as well as the emotional hurdles of losing his friend.


Present

Once again our son, Brandon was a passenger in a fatal car crash. On the morning of January 1st, Brandon and a long time friend from grade school were involved in a head-on collision. The heartbreaking accident resulted in a fatality and Brandon being rushed to intensive care with severe head injuries,  a broken back, collar bone, and shattered face (nose, sinuses, and eye sockets).

By the grace of God, our prayers were answered and our son is alive! Brandon is beginning his journey back to health, but he is certainly not out of the woods yet. He, of course, remains in the hospital in need of full-time care and supervision for his brain injury.  In addition, surgery is scheduled for Friday for reconstruction and repair of his shattered eye sockets, nose and face.


The situation is intensified because Brandon does not have insurance. Although his new job gave him and his son assurance for a better future, it did not include health insurance.

The call for help is crucial for Brandon's recovery. Care and next steps will decide the trajectory of Brandon’s future and that of his son. The doctors have informed us that the road will be long and the progress will be slow.  He is due to be released from the hospital as soon as he is stable following his surgery this Friday, and it could be as early as Monday, that he would be released for rehabilitation for his brain injury.  

Because our son does not have insurance, the rehab facility is asking for a deposit of  $7000 prior to admittance for a week of treatment and $1000 per day following. If we do not have the funds by release early next week...Brandon will need to recover at home and not have the specialty care needed for the best chance of recovery.


Future

At this time there is no indication of how long the treatment will be and yet we are aware it could be months.  The timing of this next step to recovery is paramount for Brandon to have the best chance at a shot for a normal life in the future. For himself, for his son and for his future.

Having never requested anything like this and doing our best to learn how to navigate it all, we have no idea of the amount to request. What we do know is that to give Brandon his best shot we need to get him admitted into the Rehabilitation  Center for recovery.

We are devoted to being by our son around the clock to ensure his progress and do anything we can to help him during this vulnerable time. What we are facing now seems insurmountable.  We are incurring current day to day expenses along with hospital and doctors bills.

As mentioned above, we have held a constant bedside vigil with Brandon as the hospital is 1 hour from our home.  In doing so, both Kim and I have been out of work with no compensation or income. We are grateful that one of us has the opportunity to return to work, however with Kim being a self-employed Hair Stylist, we will not have any of her income for the foreseeable future.

We are still paying for the last accidents hospital bills.
We have given everything we have financially, including using all the vacation pay from the previous accident.

Receiving financial help will ensure the immediate care Brandon will need for the rehabilitation of his brain and back injuries as soon as he is released from the hospital. It will also ensure Kim can be by his side, as he will need full-time supervision and care from his mother.
