New Windows for The Larder after Vandalism

Donation protected
Any donation of £10 and up will be offered the chance to become a Friend of the Larder for no extra cost as a special thank you from Kay for helping them raise money.

Last night - the 26/1 - every single window at The Larder on Lancaster Road, Preston, was targeted by vandals. Some were cracked, others were smashed right across the whole panel.

While the building is obviously insured, and the extent of the damage means that a claim is very likely (rather than paying upfront to avoid escalating premiums), the excess on the policy is £1000.

Not only that, but there are many other costs involved that the insurance wont cover, or that payment will have to be made first and claimed back - something that when in this amount, the Larder can't afford to be doing if we can help them.

> They have already had their windows boarded up and the building secured at an estimated cost of another £1000.
> Cafe losses will need to be covered starting from today, 27/1, because they can't open when their cafe is covered in glass.
> Cleanup costs won't be covered.
> An investment of a set of security shutters may have to be paid for by The Larder, as Preston City Council will not cover the cost.

Established in June 2015, The Larder is a social enterprise in Preston, promoting food that’s healthy, local, seasonal and low waste. They work through a cafe and catering business, food academy and network of Lancashire farmers & producers.

The Larder's Food Champions programme trains people to deliver cookery sessions & healthy eating workshops to promote healthy and sustainable food to the public, build community food knowledge, skills and resources.  The course covers basic nutrition and cooking skills, supporting participants to encourage others to cook and eat better.

In February 2016, they launched their Kids in the Kitchen scheme to encourage families to cook together and explore healthier, more sustainable food.

August 2016 saw their first Feast for Peace, a multicultural event that saw over 1000 people gather on Preston's Flag Market to join together and eat food from places all over the world, listen to music and dance together. They have since hosted multiple Feast for Peace events.

In February 2019, The Larder Cafe & Community Hub opened its' doors - a physical location for a wonderful organisation.

2020 brought COVID, but Kay and her team met the challenge head on, providing over 300 nutiritious cooked meals delivered to those most in need within two weeks of the idea being thought up.
They moved their Kids in the Kitchen programme online and delivered the ingredient bags to each family. In April, 36 families took part. In June, that rose to 64, then to 120 in July.
As well as this, the team have also provided inrgedient kits for 50 families to make cakes, and for over 250 households (1000+ people) to make Lancashire hotpots.
