New Wheels for Xanna and Phoenix

On Wednesday, May 18th, our friend Xanna’s car was stolen from a CVS parking lot in broad daylight. She went in to grab a couple of things for a pool day, and within minutes, her primary source of transportation was taken from her. Whoever did this had zero remorse for her and her daughter Pheonix’s well-being. The car was full of toys, clothes, shoes, a laptop, a suitcase, makeup, her daughter’s backpack, materials for school, bike tools, books, and many more items vital to their day-to-day survival. Someone just walked by, saw these things, and decided to strip them of these essentials.

 

Not only did she suddenly lose her car, but she also lost her ability to get to work without having to rely on someone else. She lost her ability to drive her daughter to a friend’s house. To school. To museums. To nature trails. She lost her freedom of choice. It’s degrading, violating, and highly traumatic for both of them.

 

Those of you who know Xanna know how hard of a worker she is. She manages Tom Kat Kafe and Fox Lounge, one of downtown’s essential karaoke and live music spots. Over the pandemic, she worked tirelessly with 352Delivery, no doubt having delivered one of your Satchels or Loosey’s orders. Not only is she a hard worker, but she’s a huge patron of the arts. Have you ever gone to the High Dive’s live Rocky Horror Shadowcast? She runs that shit too! Seen a show at the Acrosstown Repertory Theatre? She’s been a part of several productions!

 

Xanna is an essential member of our hospitality and arts community here in Gainesville. She supports the hell out of all of us, and now it’s our turn to support her and Phoenix. I’ve currently set the goal to $8,000 to ensure that she and Phoenix can replace the car and the items in it that were taken.
