New wheels for dad!
Donation protected
Hello! My name is Meaghan Lamers and this GoFundMe page is for a cause very important to myself and my family. My dad has had Multiple Sclerosis for 27 years now and this disease has controlled many aspects of our lives. As many of you know, he cannot walk anymore, and so his main source of transportation is his wheelchair that he has had for several years now. In the past several months, this wheelchair has been breaking down and he is in need of a new one. My dad has been retired for several years now due to MS, and cannot drive, so this wheelchair is his "legs", and therefore a critical part of his life. This disease is a debilitating one, and I don't say this lightly, is one that can only get worse from here. Having this new wheelchair will help not only my dad have access to a semi-normal life, but will also help my mom (who is his primary caregiver!) as well. Thankfully, their insurance company will cover a portion of the wheelchair, but their deductible is still about $10k, because this type of equipment is extremely expensive, but an absolute necessity. Any donations towards this cause will go straight to the wheelchair that he so desperately needs, and anything over the amount raised will go toward a new hospital bed that will help him get in and out of bed easier! This bed is also very expensive, ranging from $7-10K, and will also serve to make their lives better, as well as allowing them to sleep in the same bed again, which they haven't been able to do for several years now. They are currently in 2 twin beds pushed side by side, one of them is a regular bed and the other is a medical bed for my dad. This transfer master bed will help my dad not only get in and out of bed, but will help him with his bloated feet by being able to raise the end of the bed! My parents have been so generous their entire lives, and so now I am calling on the help of their friends, my friends and everyone else who is interested to support them in this magnitude of a request. Absolutely any amount helps!
I want to end by thanking each and every one of you for helping out with this, because it's agonizing hearing all of the difficulties they go through on a day to day basis and there's nothing I can do to help them from 800 miles away. There's not a lot that I can physically do for them right now, but I thought that this would help financially. My parents have been my biggest supporters through my life, and so now I want to give back and help them through this tough time!
