"Truck of Hope" for Chacraseca
Tax deductible
- Transporting COVID patients and pregnant women to the hospital.
- Taking doctors on house calls.
- Maintaining the water system.
- Helping with emergency needs during disasters.
- Delivering program supplies to local schools.
All of these - and more - are ways that our partners in Chacraseca, Nicaragua, use the community-owned truck. But that truck has broken down beyond repair, leaving the people of Chacraseca without transportation for essential functions that so many of us take for granted.
Your gift to this campaign will save lives, like Mr. Joaquin, who contracted COVID-19 and couldn't find any friends to drive him to the hospital in León because they were afraid of getting sick themselves. But, JustHope's partners had assigned specific drivers to transport patients in the community truck. If Mr. Joaquin hadn’t gotten a ride to the hospital in the community truck, he would have died from low oxygen saturation.
Many others find the community truck to be their only hope for life-saving transportation. Beyond just functioning as an ambulance, it has also traveled back and forth to refill the oxygen tanks for ill community members.
"A functioning vehicle saves the lives of so many within our community. While we are without a vehicle, our doctors are still making house calls, but they need to walk from home to home, limiting the number of visits and the tools they can take with them. The staff of our community organization now must use public transportation to run our errands, which takes double the time and limits the work we can do."
When it's running, the community truck goes an average of 125 miles a week and costs $200 in gas a month. With your donation, you will share the life-saving gift of transportation -- a TRUCK OF HOPE -- for an entire community!
