Ich werde bald 45 Jahre alt und lebe mit meinem Mann, unseren zwei Kindern (15 und 10 Jahre alt) und unserem Hund zusammen.
Ich kämpfe aktuell erneut gegen Krebs. Nach meiner ersten Erkrankung ist die Krankheit zurückgekehrt, und ich befinde mich derzeit in Chemotherapie. Es ist eine schwere und kräftezehrende Zeit für mich und meine Familie. Trotzdem versuche ich, die Hoffnung nicht zu verlieren und nach weiteren Behandlungsmöglichkeiten zu suchen.
Ich sehne mich sehr danach, wieder ein normales Leben zu führen, und hoffe so sehr, dass es eine Therapie über die Chemotherapie hinaus gibt, die mir auf diesem Weg hilft.
Eine dieser Möglichkeiten ist Histotripsy.
Histotripsy ist eine neue Behandlungsmethode für Tumore und Metastasen an der Leber. In den USA ist sie bereits zugelassen und wird dort schon in vielen Krebszentren eingesetzt. Dabei werden fokussierte Ultraschallimpulse genutzt, um Tumorgewebe nicht-invasiv und ohne Hitze mechanisch zu zerstören. Auch in Großbritannien, Hongkong und den Vereinigten Arabischen Emiraten wird diese Therapie bereits angewendet. In der EU wurde die Therapie bereits erfolgreich im Rahmen einer Studie getestet, unter anderem in Braunschweig und Magdeburg. Derzeit ist sie in der EU jedoch noch nicht zugelassen und befindet sich weiterhin im Prüfverfahren.
Was mir zusätzlich Hoffnung gibt, ist, dass Histotripsy nach aktuellen Forschungsergebnissen möglicherweise nicht nur direkt auf den behandelten Tumor wirkt. Es gibt Hinweise darauf, dass die Behandlung auch das Immunsystem anregen kann, Krebszellen außerhalb der Leber besser zu erkennen und zu bekämpfen. Genau diese Verbindung aus einer gezielten lokalen Behandlung und einer möglichen Wirkung über den behandelten Tumor hinaus macht Histotripsy für mich so hoffnungsvoll.
Deshalb habe ich bereits verschiedene Kliniken kontaktiert, um prüfen zu lassen, ob Histotripsy für meinen Fall möglich ist und die Kosten in Erfahrung zu bringen. In Cambridge gibt es derzeit eine lange Warteliste. In London liegen die Kosten für die Behandlung bei mindestens 46.000 Euro. Die Klinik in Boston möchte zunächst alle meine medizinischen Unterlagen prüfen, bevor sie einen Kostenvoranschlag erstellen kann.
Im Tawam Hospital in Abu Dhabi wurde mir für die Behandlung ein Festpreis von 30.000 US-Dollar genannt (30,000 USD Including from arrival time in the Hospital until discharge: Procedure, Consumables, Pre & Post CT, Pre & Post Laboratory, unit room with meals. NOT Including: Visa, flight tickets.). Da dies aktuell das günstigste konkrete Angebot ist, würde ich diese Möglichkeit gerne wahrnehmen und stehe mit der Klinik bereits in regem Austausch.
Mit dieser Spendenaktion möchte ich die Kosten für die Histotripsy-Behandlung finanzieren. Aufgrund meiner krankheitsbedingten Ausfälle bei der Arbeit kann ich diese hohe Summe trotz aller Bemühungen nicht in so kurzer Zeit selbst aufbringen.
Ich weiß, dass es keine Garantien gibt. Aber ich möchte nichts unversucht lassen. Ich möchte weiterkämpfen und alles dafür tun, um wieder Perspektive zu haben und noch viel gemeinsame Zeit mit meiner Familie erleben zu dürfen.

I am about to turn 45 and live with my husband, our two children (aged 15 and 10), and our dog.
I am currently facing cancer again. After my first illness, the cancer has returned, and I am currently undergoing chemotherapy again. This is a difficult and exhausting time for me and my family. Even so, I am trying not to lose hope and to keep looking for further treatment options. I long very much to return to a normal life, and I hope with all my heart that there is a treatment beyond chemotherapy that can help me on that path.
One of these options is histotripsy.
Histotripsy is a new treatment for tumors and metastases in the liver. It is already approved in the United States and is being used in many cancer centers there. It uses focused ultrasound pulses to mechanically destroy tumor tissue in a non-invasive way and without heat. This treatment is also already being used in countries such as the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, and the United Arab Emirates. In the EU, the treatment has already been successfully tested in a clinical study, including in Braunschweig and Magdeburg. However, it is not yet approved in the EU and is still under review.
What gives me additional hope is that current research suggests histotripsy may not only work directly on the treated tumor. There are indications that the treatment may also stimulate the immune system to better recognize and fight cancer cells outside the liver. It is exactly this combination of a targeted local treatment and a possible effect beyond the treated tumor that makes histotripsy feel so hopeful to me.
That is why I have already contacted several clinics to find out whether histotripsy could be an option in my case and what the costs would be. In Cambridge, there is currently a long waiting list. In London, the treatment costs are at least 46,000 euros. The clinic in Boston would first need to review all of my medical records before providing a cost estimate.

With this fundraiser, I hope to cover the cost of the histotripsy treatment. Due to my illness-related absences from work, I am unable to raise this large amount myself within such a short time, despite all my efforts.
I know there are no guarantees. But I do not want to leave anything untried. I want to keep fighting and do everything I can to regain some sense of perspective and to have much more precious time with my family.
