New Sledge for Marcus
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Laurie my son Marcus has a rare disability called Acute Flaccid Myelitis, when he was 3 years old he had a bad cough one day and the next he couldn't bare any weight on his left leg.
This was 10 year ago, Marcus has NEVER let his disability stop him in doing anything he puts his mind to. He learned how to ride a bike, how to skate & rollerblade with his leg brace on, he played basketball & ball hockey but his favorite spot to play is sledge hockey.
He has been playing with the same team since he was 6 years old he is now 14. When he 1st started playing we borrowed a sledge from the Team the Elmvale Bears, and they have been letting us borrow different sledges as Marcus grew over the years. Now he is 14, on the A team playing with the big boys because he has improved so much over the years, they even say he could make Team Canada one day!
Now the only thing holding him back is not having his own custom sledge.
As a single mom it is tough enough to get him to all the games & tournaments all over Ontario, but getting him a new custom sledge is just something I am not able to afford especially when they start around $1300, and that's just the basics. I am hoping to reach out to my community & any one else who may understand what it's like to live with a disability, or to be a parent to a child with a disability, to anyone who knows how difficult being a single parent can be when all of the physical, mental & financial responsibilities rest in only your hands. I know we have had many friends, family & strangers help us in the past so I figured I'd give it another shot. Thank you so much to anyone who donates or just shares our page, it is more appreciated than you know!
