New Shelter Tranquility Lane

Tax deductible
Saving Paws of Caldwell purchased a building on Tranquility Lane August 2017. We have started on the plumbing and have had dirt work done. Hopefully concrete will be poured in the first part of October 2018. We need funds for cinder blocks, gates, fencing and especially for air and heat. The metal building gets extreme temperatures.  To make sure we can get moved we have cut down on our building. We are no longer expanding at this time. We just need to reduce the number of dogs we have and get the building as is ready before we have more extreme weather.

The conditions at the current shelter are horrible. We have one area that is concrete, you see this in the video, it was not poured properly and does not drain. The rest of the dogs are on pallets topped with composite wood and their kennels with tarps. We have inmates that help and that has been tough as the turnover in the last year has caused a lot of problems. Some are there for a couple of months, some days or weeks. We have had injuries due to kennels falling apart, which costs us more money in vet bills. We are extremely over crowded and they keep coming in even though we say no more. No board member or volunteer can stay at the facility all day every day as there are no facilities such as restrooms there. It makes it hard to keep an eye on things at the shelter to keep things from getting worse. Once we are in our new clean place the environment will be so much cleaner and safer for our dogs, as well as for visitors and volunteers. We will be able to offer our senior citizens grooming and vaccinations. We plan on having training programs that will help inmates in future jobs, work with students in administrative, data entry, social media, etc. We are a small community of just over 10,000, but with a dog problem of a much larger area. We have  gotten 134 puppies out of our parish and state to better homes up north since January 2018.  We make sure all adoptions are to good and safe homes. We have a low income spay/neuter program for people in our parish. We have started a Feral Cat Program and we have spayed or neutered 30 cats. We need help and lots of it. In such a small community it is hard to raise these kinds of funds as there are others trying to do the same for their organizations. No amount is too small. If you can't offer money but have a great idea to raise funds we are receptive. Our website is www.spofc.org.
