The Stepping Stones Academy (SSA) is a private school situated in the city of Offinso, near Kumasi in Ghana. The pupils of the school are between 2 and 14 years old and attend kindergarten, primary classes or the junior high school. In the moment there are over 500 children in school. In 2015 the school has expanded to a second location, the so called New Site.
The school’s main goal is to give children from poor, mostly farmer families, access to education and therefore bringing them a step closer to a secured future. But not just the learning has a high priority at SSA, but also the health of the children. There is always good drinking water available and the pupils get a warm lunch every day.
The learning environment has improved by a lot over the last years. There are fewer children in the classrooms now, and the classes one and two and the kindergarten have proper furniture. Unfortunately, the school has not enough money to buy the good furniture for the all classes. But they are urgently needed. Especially in the classes three and four, which are still relatively big. Their current furniture is made of poor material and breaks very easily. Some desks are to small, so the children have to put them on there knees or bend very low to be able to write. Another disadvantage is that they take up a lot of space. There is no space at all to move around in the class.
The Stepping Stones Academy is currently supported by us, two volunteers from Germany. We are really enjoying working here and grew very fond of the school, its pupils and teachers. Therefore we would like to extend our support by buying new furniture for the classes three and four in order to create a better and safer learning environment. We would be very grateful for any support from your side.
