I'm a retired Sea Captain/Scuba instructor presently living in Tampa Bay, launching a GoFundMe to pilot a completely mechanical, self-powered salt-to-fresh water system—designed to run around the clock with low maintenance.
My vision is to develop a mechanical desalination system capable of producing reliable drinking water in calm water locations. No grid, power, or fuel required. Once validated, license the technology to manufacturers for worldwide distribution.
How it works: A lead bullet-shaped hammer free-falls in a composite tube, compressing a flexible diaphragm that drives high-pressure seawater into a small accumulator, delivering steady pressure to a standard reverse osmosis membrane; a recoil spring auto-resets the hammer and the process starts over and over again—200 gal/day per tube.
Use case: Modular community arrays (~20,000 gpd target) for island nations, coastal communities, clinics, and schools where power is unreliable.
Background: In 2018, I was interviewed by West Palm Beach outlets for algae-removal equipment used during the Martin County toxic algae bloom (separate project).
