Hi my name is Judy. About a year ago I was given the news that I had breast cancer. This resulted in me needing a total mastectomy and the impact this has had on some of my daily living activities has been unexpectedly profound. One such activity has led me to start this fund raiser. My brother hit 70 in May and to celebrate, we went on a big family holiday to Spain. While I was packing for the trip, it suddenly dawned on me that I needed something to store my breast prosthesis in when I wasn’t wearing it. I googled ‘travel cases for breast prostheses’ but I couldn’t find a thing. When you are first given the breast form, it comes in a very large box which contains a hard plastic shell in which the breast form sits in order to maintain its shape. There was no way I could pack this in my case without taking up a ridiculous amount of space. So I had to get creative and ended up cutting the plastic shell down to the smallest size possible. Not ideal. Once at the hotel, I then had to prop it up with items of clothing in order to stop it toppling over. It’s moments like these that trigger you and remind you of how different your body is now. I know from reading other ladies experiences on various cancer support groups that this was a common issue. This sparked an idea and determination in me to create something to solve this problem and make life a little easier. I have made contact with a design and development company and now I just need to raise the initial funds to start the process. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I would be thrilled if you can help.
