----------------------------------------------------------

The cornerstone establishment of the one-stoplight town East Quogue, NY is the New Moon Cafe, owned by Army veteran "Hot Rod" Ronnie Campsey and his wife Shana since 1978. Ronnie is a decorated Vietnam War veteran. He earned several medals including a Silver Star (Gallantry in Action), a Purple Heart for Wounded in action and 2 Bronze Star (Heroism in Action) with V for Valor. They built the entire restaurant out of a general store that year, and it has been the heart of East Quogue ever since.

The New Moon Cafe has done many incredible things for the East Quogue community over the past 40+ years including donating their restaurant and food to over 200 people fundraisers for an education foundation that benefits the local elementary school, food for EMTs and other local non-profits.

When COVID hit, the New Moon donated meals to families in need, sent trays of food to local hospitals for medical staff, and cooked home cooked Easter dinner for local families. They did all of this, in spite of quietly feeling their own financial pinch. For 25 years on Thanksgiving each year, the New Moon would open their doors and serve a free hot meal anyone who had nowhere else to go, or didn't want to be alone. With the help of donated turkeys and volunteers, they would serve up to 500 meals in-house and delivered.

Since COVID, Ronnie and Shana have had trouble recovering financially. And now, Ron is fighting Parkinson's disease. Shana went through major surgery this winter and has been faced with a difficult recovery process. Ron and Shana recently confided that they are in danger of losing the New Moon Cafe due to financial reasons resulting from the COVID and Ronnie's battle with Parkinsons Disease.

The New Moon Cafe is the heart and soul of our small town - a place where you'll find local teenagers' bands getting their first gig on the outdoor stage, friends laughing over a beer at the bar or fire pit, local groups holding community meetings, or families gathering for Sunday Brunch. Ronnie said “...I’ve been visiting tables and welcoming people for 45 years,” he says. "...In the outside world, I could never pay for the things I get in here.” The New Moon cafe is truly Ron & Shana's home, and in turn they have made it a home for all of us who live in East Quogue.

Please consider donating to this fund to help keep the New Moon Cafe open, both for the Campseys and all who have made life-long memories here.
