I am in the process of a double lung transplant due to being born with Cystic Fibrosis. I have been very fortunate and blessed to have lived 43 years and are just now needing a double lung transplant. The donations I am needing are for moving expenses so that I can live within 10 miles of my transplant facility which will be at Duke Medical Center in Durham, NC. So I will be relocating from Nashville, TN. These are the rules and guidelines I have to follow in order to receive new lungs. I will need to rent an apartment for approximately 6 months or longer to start my physical rehab 30 days prior to my transplant, then I get listed and after my surgery I will need to do physical rehab barring no complications. Between my mortgage and the driving, medications that my insurance won’t always pay in full, and living expenses with hotels and an apartment , this is not feasible without the help of donations. Any donation will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
The reason why I am needing a double lung transplant all started last September 2018 when I came down with the adeno virus and rhino virus at the same time and took just over 7 weeks of antibiotics to finally get better but the damage was done. Before I got sick, my lung functions were around 35% which believe it or not didn't slow me down and you would never know that's all I had. I pushed myself to keep up, yes I had a lot of limitations but I was still at the time very independent.
Since then, my lung functions dropped to 24% and am now on oxygen 24/7 at 2 liters. Did this slow me down? YES BUT I feel great, I have a great appetite, I am able to take care of myself, clean my house with the help of my fiancé and able to walk upstairs in my home. I am a fighter and anyone that knows me would tell you I am very stubborn and I don't give up and my faith keeps me positive. If you have any questions for me, please ask. And again, thank you for any help you can give. I am looking forward to starting my new journey with healthy lungs for the first time. I have not been able to run in over 30 years and am looking forward to the day I can run again and grow old with Shane!
