Luke Wheeler is one of life’s special characters whose exuberance and love of life is infectious. He took over the business on his family farm in 2017. His energy and enthusiasm in his work and outdoor activities including water skiing and motor cross are testament to the wonderful man he has been raised to be.
I had the privilege of meeting and working alongside Luke in the summer of 2018 at Big Lake Youth Camp here in the US. Just two months after Luke returned home, he was involved in a freak accident on their farm which resulted in him losing his right leg and severely damaging his left ankle in the accident.
The accident which was a severely traumatic experience for Luke and also for his extremely close family was a life changing incident which tested the resolve of this amazing family.
Luke himself has fought a strong fight both physically and spiritually and continues to recuperate daily however he is hindered by inability to fully embrace his energetic goals of being back to his old self with the obvious limitations that come with a lost limb.
To enable Luke to attain his dream, a suitable prosthetic bionic limb would need to be acquired and according to preliminary investigations this would cost in the region of US$ 100 000.00. This would include all physiotherapy required for the adaptation process.
Due to the extreme economic environment in Zimbabwe at the moment, the family are unable to meet the financial costs associated with this dream so I would ask all, within their own means to help Luke to embrace a full life again. I honestly believe that Luke would make full use of the opportunity with the same way he deals with all aspects of his life and relationships. – He is a great young man!
