The New Los Angeles Repertory Company is committed to plays that matter. Plays that are meaningful to
today's audiences; that offer HOPE rather than fatalism; and that use the unique strengths of the theatre: powerful language, extraordinary performances and a searing empathic connection to the hearts and minds of the audience. The New LA Rep is under the direction of Peter Ellenstein, Yvette Freeman and Jean Kauffman.

We promise to bring the same care and exactitude that was the hallmark of the original Los Angeles Repertory Company, co-founded by my father in 1966. We are delighted to begin producing our first season since our re-birth.

PLAYS FOR PEACE

Without peace, we cannot live our lives and grow a better world. To paraphrase George Bernard Shaw:
"It is long and hard and painful to create Peace. It is short and easy to steal the Peace that others have made."

As human beings, we must do everything possible to work for peace

We focus on humanity’s quest for lasting peace for our first season back. Through a variety of
outstanding plays by America’s finest dramatists, and with the dedication of exceptional performers and
designers, we will examine the effects of war on soldiers, generals, politicians, families and each one of us.

We will be beginning our Plays for Peace in October with a remarkable and vital new play:

Eisenhower: This Piece of Ground, a new play by Richard Hellesen
Starring Tony-winner John Rubinstein as Ike
Directed by Peter Ellenstein

1962--and less than two years after leaving office, Dwight Eisenhower learns that a poll of historians has ranked him #22 of 35 on the list of presidents. Reflecting on his life and work, Eisenhower confronts his place in history. "Eisenhower: This Piece of Ground" asks provocative questions, both personal and political, that are as pertinent now as they were sixty years ago. Perhaps more.

The rest of our season is still under consideration, but among the plays we may produce are:

"A Civil War Christmas" by Paula Vogel
"Leander Stillwell" by David Rush
"Necessary Sacrifices" by Richard Hellesen
"The Overwhelming" by JT Rogers
"An Iliad" by Lisa Peterson and Denis O'Hare
"Moonshadow" by Richard Hellesen

Thanks in advance for contributing to our cause, which means so much to me. Together we can bring more
important theatre to Los Angeles and the world.
