New Hope for Our Canal
Bikers, walkers, kayakers, nature lovers, businesses, neighbors and all who love the Canal, we need your help to keep the water flowing in our Canal.
Since 2010, the mission of the grass-roots organization, “New Hope for Our Canal,” has been to keep the Delaware Canal filled with water by financing electrical power to a centrifugal pump located at Centre Bridge. It draws water from the Delaware River. That water is conveyed into the Canal and supplies the Centre Bridge to New Hope section.
The pump is needed because of structural damage to the north, which prevents the flow of Lehigh River water southward. Our group has been raising funds to pay for the electric bill for the pump at Centre Bridge, so we can enjoy a Canal with flowing water.
“New Hope for Our Canal” works with the Friends of the Delaware Canal, a non-profit organization. The Friends manage our “New Hope for Our Canal” donations and use them to pay the monthly electricity bill. The PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) oversees the appropriate level of electricity to fulfill our mission. Working together, we bring water to the Canal and help to beautify Solebury and New Hope.
A water-filled Canal creates a gorgeous setting for all to enjoy!
