New Hope For Ali to Fight Cancer

Ali Rogers was diagnosed on April 14, 2021 with Osteosarcoma, a rare pediatric bone cancer.  Originally thought to have injured her leg playing soccer with friends, a visit to her pediatrician turned into devastating news for her family.  As you can imagine, this will be a difficult time for her family financially. Ali has a long journey ahead of her. She started chemotherapy 2 days after her diagnosis to aggressively attack the tumor and any microscopic amounts of osteosarcoma in her body.  Ali will endure approximately 10 months of treatment, expected to continue through spring 2022.

Ali’s tumor is located at the base of her femur bone extending into the soft tissue and knee.  She is currently receiving inpatient chemotherapy treatments at UW Children’s Hospital in Madison, WI. In early July, Ali will have surgery to remove the tumor and reconstruct her leg and knee.  Since osteosarcoma is so rare, with only 300-400 newly diagnosed cases in the U.S per year, surgery will be completed by a renowned orthopedic oncologist/surgeon located at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL.  The family is unsure what method will be used to reconstruct Ali’s leg.  More than likely an artificial metal device will be used to replace the cancerous bone and knee.  These metal implants typically last between 15-20 years and it is expected that Ali will require additional surgeries throughout her life.

Ali is an outgoing, strong willed, active, and energetic 12-year girl who loves to bike, swim, play Roblox with her friends, and spend time with her family.  Ali is ready to fight her battle and has an incredible support system behind her.

Ali and her family will need our support throughout this long and difficult journey.  We are asking for help from family, friends, and our community to help raise funds to relieve the financial burden from her family during her treatment and for the necessary follow up.  There will be many medical expenses and loss of work due to long-term stays at the hospital, out of state surgery, physical therapy, tests, and other medical appointments.  We want her family to fully focus on Ali’s health and not have to worry about the cost involved.  Any donation is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your support as Ali and her family navigate through these uncertain times.  Special thank you to Joanna Bisgrove for connecting Ali’s mom, Becky Baltes with Dr Gitelis at Rush.  Together, we can make a difference.
