Support Julie and Mister's Move to Atlanta for a Fresh Start

Hello people, my name is Julie Ann Hardison. I am 67 years young. I am fundraising to relocate from Los Angeles, California to Atlanta, Georgia. My target relocation date is November 22 and I’m planning to be settled in Atlanta before the Thanksgiving holiday. I am fundraising for $11,000 in total to help with relocation costs. Below you can read the cost breakdown for my move from Los Angeles to Atlanta along with hear from my friend Jamie Brooke who is helping me with my campaign! Thank you in advance for reading my story and giving me your support.

I am still in the workforce and drive for Lyft. With the cost of living in Los Angeles, it’s not sustainable for me to continue living here. My previous landlord not only increased the rent but there were major plumbing problems where some days I couldn't use the shower or bathroom. I decided to give my 30 days notice rather than be evicted. I became homeless in March 2024 and have been living in my car since then with my baby, Mister.

Mister is my emotional support animal but more than that he’s my baby. I saw him walking down the street 4 years ago and he was so cute, I just had to have him. I offered his owner some money and she took it, and he became mine. He comforts me and without him, facing homelessness would have been that much harder. Even though we’re in this situation, I feel he deserves the same treatment as he had while we lived in our apartment, such as grooming, eating healthy, making sure he’s up to date on shots and vitamins, and taking him on walks. I also still make time to play with him because he likes to play!

My grandmother took me down south when I was a little girl and I really enjoyed myself. It was peaceful and pleasant. That is why I want to move to Georgia, not only for the cost of living but because it connects me to my southern roots.

My favorite food is gumbo and jambalaya. I am influenced by southern cooking but I also love making Italian and Mexican dishes. Since I became homeless, I haven’t been able to cook in a kitchen. That is something I’m really looking forward to once I move into a new home. I want to cook for me and my little baby again.

Gardening is also one of my passions. When I envision living in my new home, I think about what I’ll have in my garden. I will grow tomatoes, cucumbers, green onions, squash, collard greens, herbs, and ferns, among other things. I want to be able to eat the food I grow.

I thank you in advance for your consideration and support.

Sincerely,
Julie Hardison

Hi everyone! My name is Jamie Brooke (she/her) and I am supporting Julie’s relocation/rehousing campaign. Julie was my Lyft driver in mid-September 2025 when I was in town prepping for my company’s conference, and we hit it off immediately. I even got to meet her cutie patootie, Mister, who she clearly loves and adores. Julie felt comfortable enough to share her story with me and I want to do what I can to get her back into stable housing in a state she wants to plant roots in. That’s where you come in! I am asking my community of friends, family, colleagues, neighbors, and new acquaintances to support Julie. Everyone in this country deserves a safe place to live and thrive, and right now that means coming together as a community to help to make that happen. No amount donated is too small and every dollar counts! Thanks for supporting Julie and Mister!
