New Heart for Steve

Donation protected
Hello, meet Steve Newsom, AWESOME Husband, Father, Uncle, PawPaw, Friend, Humanitarian.  Steve and his wife, Monica, have been married for 37 years and have one loving son, daughter-in-law and grandchild.

We ask for your prayers and financial help for Steve and his wife Monica.

Steve is 58 years old, and suffered two heart attacks at age 49.  He underwent surgery after the first heart attack and a stint was placed in his artery. There was no significant damage to his heart.  He was released, only to suffer a massive heart attack after sneezing, which caused his stint to collapse which resulted in very limited heart function with a 10% EF rate.   After fighting his way through rehabilitation and physical therapy, he was able to go back to work 8 months later.

One and a half years after the attacks,  he had a pacemaker/defibrillator placed, and had ablation surgery after that to stop  A-Fib. Shortly after, he was regrettably forced to retire. Medical retirement was a devastating blow to Steve, as he had enjoyed a 25-year career with Lamar Outdoor Advertising. He loved his job and the people he worked with.

In July 2020, Steve became weak and ill, and has been unable to bounce back this time.  He has been evaluated for heart transplant and is awaiting a new heart, the gift of life.  He has been in Ochsner Hospital ICU with the Transplant Team since July 7, and remains hopeful that he will receive a heart transplant soon.   Please help support Steve with donations to defray medical costs.  All funds raised will be used to pay medical costs and for future medical purposes and medicine. ANY amount you can give would be greatly appreciated!

He has undergone many procedures and surgeries during his 9-year battle with heart disease, but has stayed positive and pulled himself back up after each setback — facing everything with a smile, jokes, and sparkle in his eye.

Steve has a HUGE heart and has spent his life helping others. He loves his family and his friends dearly, is very generous, and never meets a stranger.  He has been recognized multiple times in local newspapers as the ‘local hero’ for helping others, especially the elderly. He spent many hours working in community outreach projects and serving in his church.  In 2016, when his state suffered devastating flooding, Steve was unable to help with physical repairs due to his health issues, so he showed up with his outdoor kitchen, helping in the way that he was able.  It is our hope that he will receive a heart transplant so he can continue to help others.
