Hi my name is Emma and I am the lucky owner of a small flock of rescue sheep. All have been hand reared and cared for by myself and husband.
As our girls (Ewe's) are getting older their needs have increased. We
have exclusively self funded for all our little flocks needs including vet bills, but now face a large cost for a new type of stable flooring. The type of flooring we are looking to use is a bonded sealed rubber flooring which can be used for sheep, cattle and horses.
We would like to use this rather than straw for several reasons. Firstly to reduce the risk of slipping for the ewe's in the wet weather, preventing accidents and leg/joints strains, following an incident during the winter time for one of our girls. Thankfully she is fully recovered now, but leg injuries for sheep can be fatal .
This type of flooring is anti-fatigue for their aging joints, providing cushioning and support.
The flooring will provide excellent insulation during the colder months, and improve hygiene. Straw bedding harbors bacteria which increases the risk of foot infections, which are very painful to sheep and the risk increases with age.
We will always provide a safe home for our flock for the remainder of their lives, they are regularly checked by the vet and we have a brilliant shepherdess who shears them once a year.
They live their days in a 3 acre field, have access to a shelter/stable at all times and we attend to them at least once daily. We feed them pellets and hay during the winter time and they have access to meadow during the summer and spring to graze freely upon.
We would really appreciate any donation towards this new type of flooring and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting our rescue flock.
(100% of donations will be spent on this rescue flock, should we exceed the £500 target, we will use the excess money to pay for vet bills or food/hay during the winter months. The installation of the flooring will be funded by us separately)
