New England Highway Dog "Tiger"
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
A post circulated Facebook yesterday, Sunday 17th July looking for the family of a doggo who had been hit by a car on the New England Highway at Thornton. The doggo has been identified as a 3-year-old male Staffy named Tiger. Tiger has recently relocated with his human dad Simon from the Woolgoolga/Coffs Harbour region from a large property where Tiger had plenty of room to “run wild” and get plenty of exercise on wide open spaces. Tigers’ dad Simon has had to move back to Newcastle to support his 87-year-old Dad, who has severe Alzheimer’s disease and to also help with his elderly stepmother, who has been diagnosed with bone cancer. Due to the parents living situation, Simon cannot stay with them with Tiger. Simon and Tiger have accommodation together, which was near impossible to find due to the severe rental crisis that had reasonably priced housing that would cater for Tiger and Simon, who did not want to be separated from his best mate and companion. Although this has provided a roof over their heads, the accommodation is not fenced. Simon takes Tiger out for lots of exercise daily and is as vigilant as possible in trying to keep Tiger safe. Still, Tiger, who is used to wide open boundless spaces of rural property to run on, has become an escapologist in recent weeks, Tiger looks for every opportunity he can get to get out. Most times, Simon has been able to stop him, but on three occasions now Tiger has found a way to outsmart Simon and get out of the cabin, once out he just runs and runs as he would on the property. Unfortunately, Tigers place to run is the New England Highway, twice he was returned without a mishap but the third time he was sadly hit by a car when it seems he has tried to bolt across the highway in front of a car on Sunday afternoon. The people that hit Tiger were very kind and stopped took excellent care of him and transported Tiger to the after-hours emergency where he was assessed, received medical treatment and put under sedation. The cost of the treatment so far and ongoing treatment is something that Simon is going to struggle with. Simon is extremely humble and said that he has never had to resort to asking for money he has always worked hard and paid his own way but given his and Tigers current circumstances he would accept the offer of a go fund me if people were so kind to donate to help his boy. Tiger is extremely loved by his Dad Simon and any help to support them would be greatly appreciated. Any money given past the costs of the vet bill will be donated to local rescue charities.
