New Computers for the Center for Gifted

Hello!

If you know who we are, it’s nice to see you! If you don’t know, we are the Center for Gifted, or the Midwest Torrance Center for Creativity, a 501(c)3 in the Chicagoland area. We have been inspiring students with hands-on programs since 1983, and have been all over! From Naperville to Cary, Elgin to the inner city, we have always strived to inspire creativity and joy in the students we meet. We are solely tuition funded and run full time by a team of five people, two of which are fully volunteer. Due to COVID-19, we have scaled down operations to two permanent locations in Elmhurst and Long Grove, and are working to expand our class offerings and update our technology. Our Windows XP laptops need to go into retirement, and with it the outdated robots that go along with them. This is why we’re asking for your help to continue inspiring creativity and learning in the next generation with ten Lenovo ThinkBook 15s laptops per location! We are estimating the cost for these to be around $13,000, or $650 apiece. Any amount is helpful and we’re eternally grateful for any and all support to continue our important work.

We have been ahead of the trend on technology and STEM education for over 10 years, and we wish to continue by developing a new curriculum surrounding blockchain technology, cryptocurrency, and the new financial world. However, without these crucial updates to our equipment, we can’t proceed forward. It can come out as soon as summer 2022 if these goals are met.

Thank you,
Lexie Kiamco
Marketing and Social Media Manager, Teacher, and enthused alumni of the Center for Gifted
