New Clubhouse for Santa Clara Lawn Bowling Club

Help Santa Clara Lawn Bowls Club (SCLBC) get a new clubhouse!
Lawn bowling is a popular game, enjoyed throughout the world by players of all ages and abilities. The aim of the game is to get your team's bowls closer to jack (smaller white ball) than the other team. It requires strategy and skill, but it's also fun and many people are instantly hooked.
Our lawn bowling club is based in Santa Clara’s Central Park, flanked by the impressive Santa Clara Swim Centre on one side and the Central Park Library on the other, and our clubhouse is an absolute disgrace and an eyesore.
The clubhouse/ hut was built over 30 years ago and is rickety, cramped, dark, musty and not fit for purpose. It also has no bathroom or kitchen facilities.
It is too small to accommodate our current club members and a source of frustration and shame when we welcome visiting lawn bowling clubs for tournaments from other parts of the Bay Area and beyond. Often these events last all day and we are unable to give those clubs the same welcome and hospitality that they have given us.
The club is open for games 5 days a week and lawn bowling is a huge part of our players’ lives. Many of our players are retired and the bowling club gives our members a sense of community and friendship, providing exercise and reducing social isolation at the same time. A more spacious clubhouse would encourage members to spend more time at the club instead of going straight home as we do now.
Our bowling club sits on land owned by Santa Clara City Council.
Around the year 2000, we were told that Central Park Library needed more land for their new building. Our old, more spacious clubhouse was demolished to make way for this, and we were given the hut (already 13 years old by that point) temporarily. We were excited to be promised a much bigger clubhouse with top class facilities in the future.
It has been nearly twenty years since the City Council promised us a new clubhouse. Some steps have been taken towards this by the council but for a variety of reasons it hasn't happened.
A proposal has been drawn up for the improvement of Central Park which includes the bowling club. If these plans are passed, they will be scheduled to be considered in 2037. That is 37 years after we were originally promised a new clubhouse.
In light of the time-frame dictated by the council and the dire need for a new clubhouse, we have decided to take matters into our own hands and raise the money ourselves. We don't want to have to wait nearly 20 years for a new facility and wait for the council to fulfill their promise (if they ever do). We want to have a decent facility now. The hut is rusty and won't last for much longer, and as the years go by the sense of urgency increases.
We need your help to raise $200,000 by Christmas 2020 for the demolition and clean up of our current clubhouse and the construction of a new building which we can be proud of.
Help us build a place with top class amenities, fully accessible to disabled players, where we can welcome members, new players and spectators to the club.
Help us build a clubhouse that other bowling clubs want to come to for tournaments knowing we can fully accommodate them.
Help us achieve our dream and not have to rely on the City Council for a clubhouse that may never happen.
Thank you!
No donation is too small - whether you donate $1 or $100 you will be helping to make a huge difference to the club.
