New Classroom Seating

My name is Erika Avelar and I teach 6th grade math and science at Tres Rios Service and Learning. This is a Title 1 school with some amazing kiddos. I have been teaching here for 5 years. Sixth grade is the year for change in students. They are now in junior high and responsiblities have increased for them. They work hard  and grow into a young adult. I have grown to love these kids as if they were my own. Their families are so welcoming and want what is best for their children.

This year I would like to try alternative seating. This would be offering the children to sit in wobbly seats, exercise balls, and swivel chairs. I would also like to add a high-top table for peer and teacher conferences, a couple of trapezoid tables and a large carpet. I am hoping that this will make my classroom more inviting and safe for students. This will decrease disruption and increase student engagement.
