New car for deserving young man

This is my godson, DJ. He is one of the sweetest young men you will ever meet! He always has a smile on his face which I find so endearing especially knowing his story. DJ has had what I would consider a hard life. He grew up having health issues that led to tubes in his ears and long-term hearing issues as well as chronic sickness. As he got older he dealt with severe learning disabilities and we would later find out is developmentally delayed. We all know life is not fair and these things alone would be a lot for any young person, add in that throughout his life he’s dealt with things no person let alone a child should have to deal with such as limited food, living in places without running water or electricity and at the end of his Senior year of high school homelessness.

After he graduated high school, DJ came and lived with our family until Alta Regional was able to find him a more permanent living situation. I share all this with you to bring to DJ’s current situation about 15 months ago DJ was able to get his license and had saved up $4000 from his job at a local car wash to buy a car. We were able to find him an older low-mileage vehicle that only had two previous owners. We felt it would be safe and reliable for his day-to-day driving which can include light snow and steep hills. It had been a great car until Thanksgiving day when the transmission went out on his way to our home. It had already had a transmission rebuild so we thought this car would last him a while. After having the car towed it was determined it would cost more to replace the transmission than he paid for the whole car. We had always stressed the importance of having money set aside for repairs and he did keep money saved but not even close to $5000.

I am not big on asking for handouts, but this kid could use a break. He’s counting on rides to get to his job, he’s hard-working, never been in trouble, and owning his own car was something that gave him pride. If you have the means and care to help out a very deserving kid it would be very much appreciated. Thank you!
