My car broke down for the last time a few days ago. I used it for the last 12 years on the Irish roads, day and night, in all weather conditions to celebrate Masses in Limerick, Galway, Belfast and Ardee, visiting the sick and dying in hospitals and in their homes and making myself available for the sacraments in the many different circumstances that were presented to me during those years.

Finally, I had no option but to abandon it because it was no longer road worthy and I had to buy another second-hand car.

This new car cost €20,000 and was purchased on the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. Its colour blue is very appropriate!

As I place the upcoming years and kilometres under Her maternal protection, may Our Lady of Lourdes intercede for me at the throne of God, and Her unceasing watchfulness protects me and my passengers from every danger of soul and body.
